For anyone who doesn't know yet, a recap:
Pre S5, Jason Momoa cut off the dreadlocks because after seven years they were getting too heavy and were starting to get uncomfortable. Producer / writer Joe Mallozzi was fine with it, wrote a scene to explain the missing dreadlocks and everybody was happy. You'd think.
Not so theproducers [ETA: network executives]. They seem to think that we - the fans - define Ronon by his hair and they made him sew his old dreadlocks back in. It took nine hours to weave the dreads back into his hair and the result, 5 lbs of dead weight tied to his natural hair, hurt like hell. After one episode he told the producers the pain was unbearable, and because they are really nice, they got him this $ 10,000 mop wig (partly made from his own hair):
Now I was watchingastridv's linkage to a cast interview, gasping at the horrific $10,000 result and wondering, what is so terrible about Ronon cutting off his dreadlocks? Are they so much part of his persona that we cannot picture Ronon without a big head of hair?
And if the network executives insist on dreadlocks and Momoa tells them repeatedly that the dreadlocks weigh 5 lbs and practically cause whiplash during fighting scenes, why not go back to season 2 length? Look, screencap from Duet - less hair, still very fierce, no?
I really don't know what I'm trying to get across with this post. I guess I just feel sorry for Jason Momoa. It is obvious he would have really liked to get rid of the dreadlocks this season, so why doesn't he get more say-so in this matter?
